NewEARS Album Of The Month
"Sonically superior, 'Beyond Shadowland' showcases the decades of combined experience that these fine musicians possess. The album presents a brand of guitar-oriented and sophisticated Prog-rock that is based on heavy but melodic guitars, expert vocals and varied stylistic influences. Crisp, refined and direct, the album will ensure that fans of the Proggier debut will be satisfied, but will no doubt embrace a somewhat broader audience as well." PN-TPRSiX BY SiX - Beyond Shadowland "Their 'sounds like' list is extensive. There's an overlap with Spock's Beard and Flying Colors; and despite Glockler's background in metal, Six By Six are more hard rock. Going further back, it feels a safe guess that they've absorbed some Blue Oyster Cult, Deep Purple and the melodic wallop of Kansas and Styx. But there's a lot more here besides. Beyond Shadowland comes across as remarkably fresh and punchy. On the surface it's perhaps a tad less bombastic than their debut, but one can hear evidence of Crichton's claim that this new material is more nuanced and adventurously structured, and there's a lot going on around the band's big tunes." MB-Prog Essential Track: "The intro to "Obiliex," my favorite track on the album, is quite simply next-level melodic Prog, and Berry's fretless bass on this track reminds us just who he is." Todd Rundgren just announced his 38-concert 'Me/We Tour' that will send him to theaters, performing arts centers, casinos, auditoriums and bowls all over North America from April through July.
Over the course of the four-month run, the 2021 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee will spend quite a bit of time in New York and New Jersey. As of now, the 75-year-old former Nazz frontman has lined up shows in North Providence, RI (May 6), and Boston, MA (May 8). And while fans can likely expect to hear the hits - "I Saw The Light", and "Hello, It's Me" to name just a few - Rundgren also likes to mix in classic Motown and R&B covers as well.
